Trump’s Name Is Being Torn Down From the Kennedy Center

BREAKING: Trump’s Name Is Being Torn Down From the Kennedy Center Right Now

A federal judge ordered it, the courts upheld it, and tonight it is actually happening. Workers erected scaffolding on the Kennedy Center Friday night as crowds gathered below chanting “Take it down!” while thousands more tuned in across the country to watch the historic moment live online.

Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that Trump’s board had no legal authority to rename one of America’s most cherished cultural institutions. Only Congress can change the Kennedy Center’s name under the federal law that created it following President Kennedy’s assassination. When Trump’s board tried to claim his name was merely a “nickname,” the judge shut it down cold. “That convenient reframing is too cute by half,” Cooper wrote.

The board scrambled for a last-minute appeal and asked the court to pause the ruling. The judge rejected it without hesitation.

Trump’s name had already been stripped from the Kennedy Center website, and staff were directed to remove it from all official documents, email signatures and letterhead. Now the sign on the building itself is coming down, right in front of a cheering crowd that refused to look away.

Tonight, the courts won. The rule of law won. And the Kennedy Center belongs to the American people again.
