Those Who Voted Against Us Are Equal Citizens – HH

LUSAKA, 19 AUGUST 2026 —

President Hakainde Hichilema has assured Zambians that his renewed mandate is a responsibility to serve every citizen equally, regardless of how they voted in the 2026 general election.

Speaking during his national address at Community House yesterday, President Hichilema said there would be no discrimination between citizens who supported him and those who voted for other candidates. He said once a leader is elected, the responsibility is to serve the entire country fairly and equitably.

President Hichilema said Zambians should not allow political differences to divide families, communities or the nation, stressing that those who supported other candidates are not enemies. He said the country remains one family and citizens must continue to respect one another.

The President also encouraged Zambians to speak openly when they are unhappy with government, saying concerns can be addressed through dialogue. He said citizens should feel free to come forward, discuss issues and find solutions rather than allowing disagreements to create division.

President Hichilema further urged citizens to accept the election outcome peacefully, saying there was no need for those who won to provoke those who supported other candidates, or for those who lost to respond with hostility.

“There is no winner here, there is no loser, we are all winners. Zambia is the winner,” President Hichilema said, adding that the country must now come together and focus on moving Zambia forward.
