THE ZESCO SECURITY OFFICER WHO WAS SHOT IN THE NECK AND STOMACH BY A SUSPECTED VANDAL HAS DIED

Kapiri Mposhi Police received a report of shooting incident involving Misheck Siakambala who was shot in the stomach and neck, later evacuated to Kabwe General Hospital where he later died around 12:00 hours after having been shot at after a vandal identified as Joseph Mambwe aged 20 attempted to grab a firearm from a police officer. The incident occurred today January 3, 2024 around 00:30 hours at Lukanda B area of Kapiri-Mposhi district of Central Province.

Brief Facts of the matter are that on December 30, 2023 Zesco Kapiri-Mposhi branch received a report of vandalism where a 70 meters long armored cable was cut and stolen by unknown vandals and since then security personnel including Police officers had been assigned to guard the place. On January 2, 2024 around 22:00 hours a team of security officers led by inspector Simon Zimba and two others Woman Sergeant Kapumba and Misheck Siakambala a Security Officer from Zesco went for patrol at the scene of vandalism, it is alleged that upon arrival at 00:30 hours on January 3, 2024 they saw a torch light and found vandals who attempted to steal a vandalized underground armored cable. Warning shots were fired in the Air which made other vandals to flee away.

However, one of the vandals who looked drunk charged towards inspector Simon Zimba with a view to grab his AK 47 Rifle, during the struggle the vandal touched the trigger and 11 rounds were discharged, after that Misheck Siakambala was heard shouting saying he was shot and he was rushed to Kapiri-Mposhi District Hospital where it was discovered that he was shot in the stomach and neck. Later on he was evacuated to Kabwe General where he later died around 12:00 hours.

The vandal Joseph Mambwe who wanted to grab the gun was shot on the right thigh and was also evacuated to Kabwe General Hospital where he has been admitted under police guard.
