THE DAY ZAMBIA LEARNS, EVERYTHING WILL CHANGE
There is one lesson that has weighed heavily on my heart for many years. Nations do not become prosperous simply because they replace one government with another. They become prosperous when their people begin to learn from their own history. A ballot paper can change a government overnight, but only a wise people can change the destiny of a nation.
As Zambians, we have walked through different political seasons. We have celebrated new beginnings. We have grown disappointed. We have hoped again, but one question remains unanswered, “Have we become wiser with every chapter of our history, or are we still expecting different results while forgetting yesterday’s lessons?”
No leader is perfect. No government is without challenges, but a mature nation does not judge only by emotion or slogans. It measures, it compares, it remembers and it chooses its future with clear eyes. That is how strong nations are built. They do not throw away progress because of frustration, nor do they embrace failure because time has softened their memory.
Allow me to leave Zambia with one thought that I hope will outlive today’s politics. A ballot paper can change a government. Only a learning people can change a nation.
That is the Zambia we must become.
