Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Again Emerges as Contender for Algeria Job

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has once again been linked with the vacant Algeria national team coaching position following the departure of Vladimir Petkovic.

According to SCORENigeria on Saturday, July 4, 2026, citing reports from Algeria, Chelle has emerged as one of the leading candidates to succeed Petkovic, who was sacked after Algeria’s disappointing Round of 32 exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This is not the first time the former Mali coach has been associated with the Desert Foxes.

He was previously mentioned as a potential candidate for the role during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Despite the renewed speculation, Chelle recently committed his future to Nigeria.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the 47-year-old has agreed to remain in charge of the Super Eagles until 2030.

In addition to leading the senior national team, Chelle will also oversee Nigeria’s U-23 side as part of his expanded responsibilities.
