SPORTS MINISTER DEMANDS FAZ TO PROVIDE REPORT ON FIFA’S SANCTIONS

Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts Elvis Nkandu, has instructed the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to submit a comprehensive report explaining the reasons behind FIFA’s decision to impose restrictions on funds intended for football development in the country.

Nkandu expressed concerns about the severe impact these sanctions will have on the sport, highlighting the need for FAZ to urgently address the outstanding issues regarding the payments owed to former Chipolopolo Coach, Aljosa Asanovic. Failure to resolve this matter could potentially jeopardize future football development funding from FIFA.

While the Ministry awaits the official communication from FAZ, Nkandu emphasized the Ministry’s keen interest in monitoring the events transpiring within the association. He shared his thoughts in an interview conducted in Lusaka today.

FIFA’s imposition of fund restrictions comes as a consequence of FAZ being found guilty of breaching a contract. In a letter addressed to FAZ, FIFA clearly stated that more severe restrictions will be enforced if FAZ fails to provide evidence of payment to Asanovic before the next distribution of football development funds.

Commenting on the matter, General Secretary of FAZ, Reuben Kamanga, indicated that an official statement regarding these developments would be issued at an appropriate time.
