SOUTH AFRICA HAS REFUSED TO HOST GBM BECAUSE HE IS A CONVICT – KAWANA
Thabo Kawana who is Permanent Secretary for Information and Media says a South African hospital government contacted to host Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) refused because of his current status.
GBM a former Defence Minister and renowned Businessman is serving a jail sentence for allegedly failure to declare interest in a transaction between his Ministry and his company. This was atbthe time he served as Defence Minister.
He had applied to be allowed to leave the country and seek specialized treatment in South Africa.
But Kawana said contrary to innuendos that government was blocking Mwamba, the problem was the hosting country. He said the hospital GBM was supposed to go they denied but his family and government approached another hospital which is yet to respond.
Kawana said as a Convict GBM will be accompanied by Law Enforcement Officers to guard him 24 /7. He said this his family has accepted.
