SIWILA CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA
Former Patriotic Front (PF) national youth chairman Benja Siwila has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, urging Zambians to put politics aside and unite behind the government.
Mr Siwila said the conclusion of the elections should provide an opportunity for the country to move forward as one nation, regardless of political affiliation.
He described elections as a competitive process in which there would always be a winner and said citizens should respect the outcome and focus on national development.
“Elections are simply a process of competition and like any competition, there will always be a winner,” Mr Siwila said.
He appealed to President Hichilema to consider appointing capable Zambians from outside the UPND to Cabinet and other positions where they could contribute to national development.
“My appeal to President Hichilema is that, within his prerogative, he should consider engaging capable Zambians from outside the UPND,” he said.
Mr Siwila said the President had the authority to determine who was fit to serve in his administration, adding that he believed Mr Hichilema meant well for all Zambians.
He said Zambia had previously experienced political transitions involving victories and defeats by different parties, but the country had continued to move forward.
“Today, the reality is that the UPND is in government and we must accept that reality,” Mr Siwila said.
He urged those dissatisfied with the election outcome to respect democracy and the will of the people.
“We can only have one President at a time and President Hichilema is now the President of all Zambians,” he said.
Mr Siwila further called for greater unity, development and prosperity under the President’s renewed mandate.
