SIPALO AND TONGA DEMAND IMMEDIATE BAN ON EVACUATION OF POLITICIANS TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT
By: Sun FM TV Reporter
Stakeholders in politics have called for an immediate ban on evacuating government officials and politicians to outside countries for medical treatment, labelling the practice as a misuse of public funds.
Opposition 3rd Liberation Movement Party president Enock Tonga has criticized the reliance on foreign healthcare services, arguing that it deprives Zambians of resources needed to improve local medical facilities.
Mr. Tonga questioned the prioritization of medical evacuation privileges for politicians while ordinary citizens, particularly cancer patients, continue to suffer due to inadequate specialized equipment and attention in local hospitals.
He urged government officials and politicians to take personal accountability by funding their own medical care instead of relying on public funds for treatment abroad.
Meanwhile, Munali aspiring candidate Thomas Sipalo has called for the suspension of medical evacuations for government officials and politicians to be included in the proposed constitutional amendments, as it will address what he has termed the continued misuse of resources.
