SINKAMBA SAYS HE IS RELAUNCHING THE “PEOPLE’S PACT” MOVEMENT
A mass movement that was registered on March, 28, 2011, the, ‘People’s Pact’ has been re-launched with a goal to fill the perceived leadership gap in the country.
Its membership is said to include political parties, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations and other interested or affected entities or persons in Zambia.
Peter Sinkamba, the Interim Council Chairperson, announced the development in a statement issued in Kitwe on Monday.
“As a reminder, the principal activities of the People’s Pact include collaborative people-based action through promotion of peace, unity and good governance so as to reduce poverty in Zambia,” Sinkamba said.
He noted that the country was again at crossroads and that the people of Zambia wanted the opposition to unite for the purpose of 2026 elections.
Sinkamba stated that this was especially so for those interested in uplifting Zambians from jaws of poverty.
“You may recall that under the leadership of Colonel Panji Kaunda in 2011, the People’s Pact organised several rallies across the country in support of the late President Michael Sata,” he said.
Sinkamba added that this was after failures to reconcile the late President Sata with the current President Hakainde Hichilema when the United Party for National Development-Patriotic Front (UPND-PF) Pact collapsed.
The Green Party leader stated that it appeared unity of purpose was failing Zambians.
“It appears that United Kwacha Alliance (UKA), which was promising to achieve the objectives that the People’s Pact managed to do so resoundly in 2011 is confronted with inherent problems that may not be resolved soon,” he claimed.
