SESHEKE RESIDENTS RUBBISHES KANGOMBE AND SHOKILE OVER ALLEGED 90% VOTES
Political temperatures are rising in Sesheke District ahead of the August 13 General Elections, with growing calls from residents for fresh leadership in the district.
Incumbent Sesheke Member of Parliament Romeo Kang’ombe who was among the MPs who did not vote for Bill 7 and his Personal Secretary, Mwalindu Shokile, are facing mounting criticism from sections of the community who say the two gentlemen of attempting to manipulate party structures in order to secure control of both constituencies.
Residents allege that the two have awarded each other “90% votes” through compromised structures despite increasing dissatisfaction among grassroots supporters including many UPND officials at Ward, Constituency and District level.
In Sesheke West, popular public figure Fredrick Misebezi has emerged as a strong favourite among residents, with many describing him as the most suitable candidate to represent Sesheke West Constituency in Parliament and spearhead meaningful modern development in the area.
Meanwhile, in Sesheke East, Mr. Kang’ombe is reportedly facing stiff competition from Professor Andrew Nambota, who is also said to command significant support from residents in Sesheke East Constituency.
Community members say the political landscape in Sesheke has changed, with many now demanding leaders they believe can bring visible modern development and new ideas to the district.
Some residents say Mr. Kang’ombe and his Personal Secretary at his National Assembly Office are attempting to maintain political influence mainly to protect their personal business interests within the two constituencies.
“The people are no longer interested these two guys; Kang’ombe and his Personal Secretary. Sesheke needs leaders who can transform the district and address the challenges people are facing daily,” one resident said.
Others warned that failure by the United Party for National Development to listen to the concerns of grassroots supporters could negatively affect the party’s popularity in the district ahead of the elections.
The growing debate comes as political parties intensify adoption processes and campaigns in preparation for the August 13 polls.
