TEMBO GOES FOR HH, USING ACCESS TO INFORMATION LAW, ASKS FOR HIS ASSETS DECLARATION INFORMATION
Sean Tembo has written to the Electoral Commissions of Zambia (ECZ) to request for President Hakainde Hichilema’s 2021 Declaration of Assets.
After unsuccessful law suit Tembo who heads a political party called PeP has made his request using Section 10 of the newly enacted Access To Information Act No. 24 of 2023.
Two weeks ago President Hichilema signed the most sought after Bill into law which all previous administration had failed. The law provides for Citizens to have access to information in public institutions.
This step by Tembo is a test as whether the law works or it is just one of those peace of documents just there to hoodwink the public.
The public will keenly wait to see how the matter will be handled.
President Hichilema has not publicly declared his assets despite calls by some stakeholder including the US Ambassador saying there is no constitution provision that demands him to do so.
