SEAN TEMBO DISAPPOINTED BY ALLEGED UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT BY POLICE IN EASTERN PROVINCE

The opposition Patriots for Economic Progress is disappointed with the alleged unprofessional conduct of police officers at Petauke police station in Eastern Province, who have refused to receive the party`s letter of notification for a rally scheduled for 21st September 2024 at Petauke Day Secondary School grounds.

Party leader Sean Tembo has disclosed that his Petauke District Secretary Moses Phiri attempted to deliver the letter to Petauke police station on 26th august 2024, and subsequently continued to go to the police station almost on a daily basis thereafter, but to date the police have refused to receive or acknowledge receipt of the letter of notification for the rally.

Mr. Tembo says the party has since written to Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba to express its disappointment with the unprofessional behavior of his police officers at Petauke police station.

He has further implored the Inspector General of Police to ensure that his men and women in uniform exhibit professional behavior at all times.

He has also advised government in general and the Ministry of Home Affairs in particular, to ensure that they stop interfering with the independent functioning of the Zambia Police Service.

Mr Tembo believes that it can only be out of fear of the unknown from political office bearers, that police officers can be reduced to behave in the manner that Petauke police station officers behaved.

But Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has told Phoenix News that he is not aware of such an occurrence and has since challenged Mr. Tembo to pin point the officer who refused to receive the letter.
