PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S FIRST TERM PROVES HE CAN DELIVER MORE – KAYUMBA
STATE House Special Assistant for Finance and Investment Jito Kayumba says President Hakainde Hichilema’s first five years in office have demonstrated that determined leadership can reverse even the most difficult economic circumstances.
Kayumba said when the UPND administration took office, Zambia was weighed down by unsustainable debt, depleted public finances and weak macroeconomic fundamentals, leaving little room for development spending.
He disclosed that despite feeling discouraged by the economic situation at the time, President Hichilema’s confidence and grasp of economic issues convinced him that the country could recover.
“The thing that kept me hopeful was the President’s clear focus and determination to overcome the challenges we found,” he stated.
Kayumba said virtually every major economic indicator, including inflation, foreign exchange reserves and the exchange rate, painted a gloomy picture in the early days of the administration, but the President remained steadfast because he had a clear vision of the country’s recovery path.
He added that through resilience and sustained hard work, the government had achieved what many believed was unattainable.
“With tenacious work, resilience and focus, he did what many thought was impossible,” he added.
Kayumba further expressed confidence that President Hichilema’s second term would deliver even greater results, arguing that the progress recorded over the past five years had laid a solid foundation for future growth.
“With the courage, the acumen, and determination I saw in the last 5 years, I have no doubt that his next 5 will be even greater!”
He urged Zambians to continue backing President Hichilema, saying supporting “the striker that’s already scoring goals” would ultimately benefit the country.
