PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S ALEBWELELAPO BANYINA! ALABWELELAPO NYINA MWINI REMARK
PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S ALEBWELELAPO BANYINA! ALABWELELAPO NYINA MWINI REMARK
Our view:
In the video President Hichilema is addressing thousands of Residents in Maamba, Southern province on Wednesday, 14th August 2024.
The video has sparked debate with some people saying the language used “ALEBWELELAPO BANYINA! NYINA MWINI” as unpresidential and insulting.
The PF says President Hichilema insulated his predecessor Edgar Lungu. Some people are not happy and are threatening to voice out through the ballot.
The Praise Singers as expected have come to the defense of Hichilema.
“Lungu is the one who started. He called President Hichilema ati wachinsu,” this has been generally the response from Hichilema’s Supporters commonly known as Praise Singers.
At the Maamba rally, Hichilema who was in the coal mine town to commission a solar energy plant reminded the Residents of the “dark days” of Lungu’s reign which he doesn’t want the country to go back to.
Hichilema in also reacting to the time factor that his administration had clocked three years with nothing to write home about.
It’s been a three years of NOTHING. Nothing has been fixed as promised in there years,” Lungu said this week when commenting on three years Hichilema in government. Lungu said he was proud of the record achievement of his administration.
Hichilema however said people must learn how to count. He said his three years ends on 24th August when he was sworn in.
Now back to the video, ALEBWELELAPO BANYINA. As we have stated here several times as Zambian Eye, the Alabwelelapo campaign slogan really gets to Hichilema’s nerves. It irritates him! He doesn’t want to hear it. It is something he would not want to see happen. Lungu bouncing back to the presidency.
The only challenge however is that Hichilema is not the one to decide. It’s the people of Zambia. Yes he has power to influence but has no authority really to decide who should be president of Zambia. Doing so would be abuse of office and authority which could have it’s consequences.
As Zambian Eye, we have advised Hichilema and his league that the best way to kill this ALEBWELELAPO is to beat it’s record achievement. It’s to fix the economy as promised. Bring down prices of essential commodities, create jobs and follow the rules of law. Counting on the police to stop ALEBWELELAPO is suicide.
On the BANYINA or NYINA, this is typical of the language of the illa people. To other cultures it’s perceived as an insult. The illa people in their language this is not a big issue.
Having covered Hichilema’s campaign rallies, he has repeatedly used these words. Just check you agree with us. He actually addressed Lungu like this when he was president.
Our advice is that now that Hichilema is president the expection on how he carries himself and what he says must depict of his office. He must avoid using such words that other cultures including the Tongas take us insults.
We wonder why his Handlers have not been able to advise him on this. Even as opposition or an ordinary person you need to be mindful of the diverse cultures in your communication and interaction with people. While his fellow illas will cheer him for saying Alabwelelapo Banyina, others will feel insulted.
The language used in this video is unpresidential and unacceptable in public gathering with people of diverse cultures.
