PRESIDENT HICHILEMA SUSPENDS THREE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT JUDGES

Judges suspended following recommendations from the Judicial Complaints Commission.

Lusaka, Zambia, September 24 – President Hakainde Hichilema has suspended three judges of the Constitutional Court of Zambia with immediate effect. The suspended judges are Justice Anne Sitali, Justice Mungeni Mulenga, and Justice Palan Mulonda.

In a statement released on Monday, State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka confirmed the suspensions, noting that the President acted on recommendations from the Judicial Complaints Commission.

“The suspension of the three is in exercise of the powers vested in the President under Article 144 (3) of the Constitution of Zambia,” Hamasaka stated.

The Judicial Complaints Commission, tasked with handling complaints against members of the judiciary, made the recommendation for suspension following an undisclosed inquiry. The reasons behind the suspensions have not yet been made public.

This development comes as part of the President’s ongoing efforts to uphold the integrity of Zambia’s judiciary and ensure accountability within the nation’s key institutions.
