PRACTICALLY, THE COST OF LIVING UNDER HH IS LOWER THAN IN THE PREVIOUS REGIME
For example, if a home has five school going children: assuming they used to pay k2000 towards school fees per term, with free education: they’re now paying k0.
Meaning that, that k2000 can now be channelled to solving other problems or starting some small investment. At the same time, a similar family that couldn’t raise a k2000 for their children to be in class, their children are now affording an education. Wow!
Otherwise, if we were to choose to be sincere enough and state what free education has done to our communities , we would proudly say that since its initial rollout, it has removed the (PTA) Parent-Teacher Association charges, it has unlocked classroom access to over 2.5 million learners who were previously out of school and etc. Children who were previously sent home for unpaid fees, can now remain in class, learn with peace of mind, and sit for their exams.
This is progress, this is an impact!
If president Hakainde Hichilema had inherited a better economy, today, with subsidies in place: we could have been enjoying the lowest commodity prices.
Unfortunately, our previous regime defaulted on our public debt-making us do away with subsidies, in order to stabilize our economy, manage a massive external debt burden, and secure a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
We currently, have a genius in State House: he has managed to run and mend an economically broken country-he has been able to employ teachers, health workers, reopened mines that were closed decades ago, restructured our debt, brought back meal allowances in higher learning institutions, taken care of retirees and etc.
What more in the next five years? Zambia will be Dubai…….
