11 NABBED FOR ALLEGED THEFT OF OVER 65 TONS OF COPPER ORE

Police on the Copperbelt have detained 11 people, among them, a Chinese national, for alleged theft of over 65 tons of copper ore.

According to Copperbelt Province Commissioner of Police Peacewell Mweemba, Xiang Tong Keng, 39, a prospective buyer of the copper suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained, has been detained at Luanshya Central Police station.

Mr. Mweemba says the suspects were loading copper ore in a Sino Truck at Buteko Lodge before officers visited the area following a tip off from members of the public.

He says police have impounded the Sino Truck and ferried over 40 tonnes of the material to Luanshya Central Police while the other 25 tonnes is under guard.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old girl has been defiled and impregnated by her 15-year-old boyfriend in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale says investigations revealed that the girl went missing from her parents’ house and only showed up on march 23, 2024 and when asked by her parents where she was, the girl revealed that she was at her boyfriend’s place within Kanyama compound.

Mr. Mwale says the children have been placed in the custody of their guardians awaiting to be taken to the social welfare for further action while a docket has been opened against the boy and a medical report form issued to the girl.
