POLICE MAKE ARRESTS IN TORTURE OF JUVENILE
POLICE STATEMENT
Arrest of CCPU Officers for Assault.
Lusaka, February 8, 2024 -Police at Kalikiliki Police Post have formally arrested and charged four Community Crime Prevention Unit Officers (CCPU) implicated in the disturbing video circulating on social media. The video depicted the alleged torture of a 14-year-old male juvenile, of Kalikiliki compound.
The accused are: Benson Banda aged 49 of mutendere, Smart Phiri aged 21 of Ibex hill, Paul Sakala aged 32 of Kalikiliki and Janex Yambayamva aged 29 of Kalikiliki have been charged with Assault O.A.B.H. Contrary to Section 248 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
During the investigation, the accused opted to exercise their right to remain silent in their Warn and Caution statements.
The victim subjected to apparent maltreatment in the video, faces serious charges himself, including Murder, Aggravated Robbery, and Malicious Damage to Property.The Zambia Police Service is committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring justice prevails.
