POLICE INVESTIGATING VIRAL VIDEO OF MASKED MEN WIELDING MACHETES

Police have launched investigations into a viral social media video showing four masked individuals brandishing machetes and allegedly making statements that promote violence.

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said digital forensic officers and detectives have been tasked with analysing the footage in an effort to identify the suspects and bring them to justice.
Chilabi further said the Police is deeply concerned by the circulation of the video, which depicts the individuals displaying offensive weapons in a manner capable of threatening public safety and causing public alarm.

“The Zambia Police Service has instituted investigations to identify and bring the individuals involved to justice. Our digital forensic officers and detectives are conducting a detailed analysis of the footage to establish the identities of the individuals,” Chilabi said.

He warned that possessing, displaying or using offensive weapons in a manner that threatens public safety or promotes violence constitutes a serious offence under Zambian law.

Chilabi further cautioned members of the public against using social media or any other platform to incite violence, issue threats or encourage criminal activities.
