Police captain cheated out of nearly R3 million by by a Ben 10
According to ZiMoja, North West police are on the hunt for a man who goes by the name Dr Kalvin Sofika (30) and managed to cheat the pension payout of a retired police captain (53) out of an amount close to R3 million.
The perpetrator, originally from Uganda, posed as a medical doctor and was romantically involved with the retired police captain, report ZiMoja.
Police captain had made the decision to resign from her position in November 2023, following advice that she need not work or rely on a salary for survival.
The purported boyfriend also introduced her to a traditional healer who advised her to resign in order to begin earning money.
As a result, the victim lost her pension funds and the amounts borrowed for the suspect, totaling to R2.9 million.
The pair had initially met at a high-end Rustenburg complex and began dating.
The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.
It is also reported that the suspect has relocated following the incident.
