PROMINENT Lusaka businessman, Shadreck Kasanda has been arrested by police on charges of aggravated robbery.

Sources close to the investigations, Kasanda was arrested and detained today after a long interrogation that took place at Force Headquarters in connection with the August, 2023 Gold-Cashgate scandal that took place at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

According to the source, Kasanda has been plotting to expose high ranking State House officials connected to the USD 11 million dollars deal where five Egyptian nationals were arrested together with him, but were later let off the hook through a controversial nolle prosequi.

Officers from crime 1 at Force Headquarters have been waylaying Kasanda since he was released on bail in order to stop him from spilling names of State House officials who were behind the failed Gold-Cashgate scandal.

“Officers from our office have been following up this matter involving Shadreck Kasanda. We could have netted him a fortnight ago but we were told that he was unwell. Infact we wanted to arrest him on valentines day but we were informed that he is unwell. So, today he reported himself and we arrested him and detained for aggravated robbery charge and you know this is a nonbailable offence. So he is detained at Ibex Hill Police,” the source said.

Queried about whoelse is charged for the same offence among the people who were arrested together with Kasanda, the source said only Kasanda has been charged and arrested.

“Remember that munalemba ka story about Jim Belemu the boss for Mahogany Airline. That man was not involved, but you know how the system works, we may arrest Robson Moonga, Mateo Makayi from State House, among others but we have a bit of a challenge with those, because they are very close to senior State House officials mentioned in the saga,” the source said.
