PATSON DAKA MAKES DREAM RETURN, STARS IN LEICESTER’S 3-1 WIN OVER SWANSEA
Patson Daka marked his return to the Leicester City team in emphatic fashion, contributing to a goal in just three minutes as the Foxes romped to a 3-1 victory over Swansea City on Tuesday night.
The Zambian striker, who was named December’s Fans’ Player of the Month for his blistering form, picked up where he left off before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations. He had bagged four goals and two assists in December, and although Zambia’s early exit saw him feature only in the group stage, he did find the net in their 1-1 draw against Tanzania.
Daka wasted no time settling back into life at King Power Stadium. Having rejoined the team on Monday and trained with them, he earned his place in the starting lineup for the league leaders. His immediate impact was undeniable, as he teed up Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the opening goal just three minutes into the game.
Daka’s influence continued in the second half. He won a penalty in the 69th minute, expertly converted by Stephy Mavididi, before the Foxes put the result beyond doubt through Yunus Akgun’s strike in the 72nd minute. Just like in December, Daka was substituted with ten minutes remaining, making way for Thomas Cannon. The visitors managed a consolation goal through Joe Allen in stoppage time, but it was a mere footnote on a dominant Leicester performance.
The win extends Leicester’s lead at the top of the Championship table to a commanding 10 points, with Ipswich Town in distant second. As they march towards a Premier League return at the first attempt, Daka’s resurgence is a timely boost.
With the transfer window closing in less than 48 hours, speculation about Daka’s future are likely to be put to bed. For now, he remains a key figure in Enzo Maresca ‘ plans and will be vying for a starting berth in Saturday’s away clash against Stoke City.
