Mpezeni IV to be Buried at his Palace instead of the Feni ground royal gravesite
The Ngoni Royal Establishment has announced that Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV will be buried at his palace cattle kraal instead of the Feni Royal Gravesite as previously communicated.
Speaking during a press briefing in Chipata, Chief Madzimawe explained that the change is in accordance with Ngoni tradition, which dictates that a king is buried at the cattle kraal, the symbolic birthplace of the Ngoni kingship.
“The king is buried at his cattle kraal. That is where the king will be planted. As per Ngoni custom, the Ngoni kingship comes out from the cattle kraal,” Chief Madzimawe said.
He added that the government and the Ngoni Royal Establishment are working closely together to ensure burial preparations are carried out in line with tradition.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV, who ruled for 44 years and was one of Zambia’s longest-serving traditional leaders, died on Saturday in Lusaka after an illness.
