OCIDA MEMBERS DISOWN LETTER TO US EMBASSY

Our Civic Duty Association -OCIDA- has disowned the letter written under the guise of Emeritus Archbishop TELESPHORE MPUNDU calling on the US Government to impose sanctions on Zambian Government Officials.

And OCIDA says it is greatly disappointed that some citizens are using the name of the organisation and abusing retired Archbishop MPUNDU for their selfish motives.

OCIDA Trustee, LESLIE MBULA says it is unfortunate that this has been going on for some time.

Mr. MBULA says the organisation has now taken steps to respectfully request Emeritus Archbishop MPUNDU to consider retiring from the leadership of OCIDA.

He has also demanded that OCIDA member BREBNER CHANGALA should cease being a member of the Organisation.

Mr. MBULA alleges that Mr. CHANGALA’s actions have been tantamount to hijacking the organisation and dissuading it from its mission for which it was formed.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. MBULA said Zambia is today seen as a bastion of democracy as noted by credible institutions like the Varieties of Democracy in their 2024 report.

Meanwhile, OCIDA Management Committee Member, PETER MWALE said the Organisation is charged with the responsibility of advising the government and not otherwise because it is not a political party.
Mr. MWALE said OCIDA aims to provide checks and balances to the government by ensuring accountability and transparency is upheld at all cost.
