“BETRAYAL IS PAINFUL — LET ME VENT 💔
Dealing with betrayal can sometimes feel even more painful than dealing with an open enemy, because with an enemy, you know where the danger is coming from. But betrayal comes from people you trusted, people you welcomed into your life, people you never expected to turn against you. That is what makes it so painful.
Throughout the night, I have been trying to digest one question: How can someone betray the very people who stood by them when they had almost nothing?
People who picked you up when you were down, clothed you, supported you, gave you a platform, believed in you, and helped you rise to the position you occupy today — how do you eventually turn around and stab those same people in the back?
Let us be honest. From my perspective, NRPUP was not a party many people expected to rise so quickly. Zambia has had political parties led by political heavyweights that struggled for years to make a significant impact. Yet within a very short period, NRPUP came onto the political scene, gained serious attention and eventually participated in winning the general elections.
Then came the disagreements and political developments surrounding Ba Zyele, Ba Mwangala Zalamis and the Mundubile Makebi factor. And now, seeing Ba Ezra Tembo make decisions that, in my view, have left Ba Mundubile and many of us who sacrificed for this journey feeling abandoned, is extremely painful.
What makes this particular situation harder for me is that I was personally involved.
I made sacrifices. I put aside my own political pursuits through #ICHABAICE, something I had invested in for years. We gave our best to support the Nyali ticket. We sacrificed time, resources, relationships and opportunities because we believed in what we were building.
And yes, our efforts produced results. That is why I cannot sit here and beat myself up. I know I gave my best.
But betrayal still hurts.
I remember personally looking for money, no matter how little, just to support Ezra. I remember how difficult it was to convince Christopher Kangombe Junior, who had already done significant groundwork under #ICHABAICE in Dag Constituency, to step aside, support Ezra and help with the campaign.
When you remember those things and then find yourself on the receiving end of what feels like betrayal, it becomes difficult to process.
I thought the Chabinga and Miles Sampa episode in PF was painful, but this one feels different because this time, it has touched me directly.
Sometimes, as human beings, we simply need to take a step back and reflect.
Ask yourself:
Without the people who stood by me, supported me, sacrificed for me and opened doors for me, would I have reached where I am today?
And if the answer is no, then another question follows:
Why would I turn around and hurt the very people who helped me get there?
Anyway, as I always say, TIME SETTLES ALL MATTERS.
Maybe this is simply the nature of Zambian politics. Maybe political survival comes with difficult decisions, shifting alliances and painful separations. But regardless of politics, I believe we should never forget the people who stood with us when the journey was difficult.
For now, I need to process this.
