NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE CHIEFS CHALLENGES HICHILEMA TO DELIVER CAMPAIGN PROMISES

CHIEFS in North Western Province have challenged President Hakainde Hichilema on the need to fulfil his campaign promises, saying the province was still waiting for the construction of a Provincial Specialised Hospital.

The traditional leaders noted with sadness that ever since the Vice President Mutale Nalumango commissioned the construction of a specialised provincial hospital in May 2022, construction has not began.

Speaking during a meeting held between President Hichilema and the Provincial Council of Chiefs during his visit to the province, Chief Mumena revealed that the province was behind in development despite the province housing mining companies.

Chier Mumena said the province was still waiting for the hospital which Vice President Nalumango conducted a ground breaking ceremony in 2022 but nothing has yet been done.

“We are disappointed Mr. President. But we are very hopeful that this province will receive it’s share (of development),” said Chief Mumena.

However, President Hichilema wondered why the ground breaking was rushed, describing the process as premature.

He said he did not want to get into details of the rushed commissioning, but insisted that it was premature as he asked for more patience.

“My eyes are on the North Western Province just like they were on achieving debt restructuring. I ask that you believe in your son and exercise some patience. The commissioning of the hospital was premature. I don’t want to go into how the commissioning came to be,” he said.

And President Hichilema promised the Chiefs that his government would construct universities in North Western, Southern, Eastern, Luapula and Northern Provinces.

He said he was aware that the the areas stated did not have a public university.
