NO CORRUPTION, THEFT, ABUSE OF OFFICE CRIMES WERE FOUND ON KAMPYONGO’S WIFE, ACC INVESTIGATIONS OFFICER FLORENCE MUSONDA TELLS COURT

THERE was no corruption, theft and abuse of authority crimes established in the manner the wife of former minister of Home Affairs Steven Kampyongo, Wanziya Chirwa acquired property in Foxdale, Meanwood, Mikango and Eureka in Lusaka, this is according to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigations officer Florence Musonda.


Musonda said this during cross examination in the matter in which Kampyongo and his wife Wanziya Chirwa Kampyongo are facing 11 counts of property suspected to be proceed of crime in the Economic and Financial Crimes Court in Lusaka today.


Appearing before Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya, the State witness from the ACC testified that she investigated the matter, but that there was nothing wrong in the manner Kampyongo’s wife acquired the property in question, although she had to proceed to charge her with the offence of being found in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.


When it was put to her by Kampyongo’s lawyer to tell the court whether there was any form of corruption, theft or abuse of office in the manner Wanziya acquired the said property in Foxdale, Meanwood, Eureka and Mikango, Musonda said there was no corruption, neither was theft nor abuse of office in the manner those property in question were acquired.


She further stated that the land in question was acquired from the Ministry of Land, though she did not know how much was spent to buy it.


Musonda stated that during the investigations, she did not summon or interview the person who was contracted to build the said property, but relied upon a report from government evaluators on the value of the property according to the market price before charging Kampyongo’s wife.


She testified that she did not know how much was spend on the construction of the said property because she did not find out from people who did the bill of quantity to ascertain how much was spent.
Kampyongo and his wife are facing 11 counts of being in procession of property suspected to be proceed of crimes involving over 23 million kwacha worth of property.
