BREAKING: Newsom fires back at Trump’s DOJ witch hunt: “Come after me. I am not going anywhere.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom stepped into the center of the political firestorm this week, delivering a scorching rebuke of President Trump’s Justice Department after federal agents began knocking on the doors of family friends and former employees in what Newsom called a politically motivated fishing expedition.
“Not because they found a crime,” Newsom said bluntly. “Because they are simply trying to find one.”
Newsom made clear he knows exactly why he’s being targeted. Trump called for his arrest last year, and now, with Newsom openly considering a presidential run, the DOJ has come knocking. But what pushed Newsom’s response from defiant to deeply personal was the revelation that Trump’s operation had reached into his own home, targeting his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a public servant who has spent her career advocating for women and girls.
“If they can’t intimidate me, they’ll go after the mother of our children,” Newsom said.
Rather than retreat, Newsom went on offense, laying out a sweeping indictment of Trump’s record of corruption. He pointed to Trump’s personal fortune ballooning by $4 billion since returning to office, foreign governments funneling money through tariff relief tied to Trump’s golf courses, and the reported acceptance of a $400 million private jet from a foreign government. He called out Trump’s sons for their business ventures in countries where the administration is simultaneously setting policy.
“The White House has become a marketplace,” Newsom said. “Influence for sale. Access for sale.”
Newsom named the pattern of retaliation that has defined Trump’s second term, listing Jerome Powell, James Comey, Letitia James, Adam Schiff, Tim Walz, and even a woman a jury found Trump had sexually abused, all people who challenged Trump and ended up on his list.
“Today, I proudly join that list,” Newsom said.
He closed with a direct message to Trump that was equal parts warning and invitation: “Come after me. I am not going anywhere. And the country is watching.”
