NAQEZ DEMANDS TIME FRAME FOR TEACHERS’ SALARY SCALE UPGRADES
The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia-NAQEZ is calling for a road map that will have a time-frame for government to upgrade salary scales for deserving thousands of teachers across the country.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa recalls that in the last 12 months, President Hakainde Hichilema has twice directed the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission, to upgrade the salaries of teachers who have attained higher qualifications.
Dr. Chansa is concerned that despite this presidential directive, teachers continue to receive salaries that do not reflect their advanced qualifications, because the implementing agencies have failed the president by not acting upon his directive.
He says to honour the President’s commitment and address teachers’ grievances, NAQEZ calls on the Ministry of Education, the Teaching Service Commission, Teacher unions and all educational stakeholders to urgently convene and develop a transparent, fair and predictable road map.
Dr. Chansa says the roadmap will serve as a mechanism for implementing salary scale upgrades for educators.
