Mwepu’s absence at AFCON painful says Patson!
Leichester city striker Patson Daka yesterday reflected on the journey to Africa cup and weighed in on the absence of Enoch Mwepu from the squad who had been an integral companion of Daka’s football journey.

Daka and Mwepu were team mates at under 20 and together won the 2017 Africa cup of Nations and participated in the under 20 world cup were they went up to the quarter finals.

They were also team mates at Red bull Salsburg in the Austrian League and moved to the premier league at the same time with Daka going to Lichester city and Mwepu going to Brighton & Hove Albion .

Speaking from Ivory coast where he is camped with the national team Daka said

“Its a difficult moment for all of us because we were talking about this moment (Afica cup appearance) for a very long time and the dreams that we had together but its also a motivation for us knowing that we still carry him in our hearts and we will always fight for him as well and he is still part of our group. We may not be together in the group but we know he is always there. We always do our best to make him proud as well”

Mwepu went on to have an illustrious career in the English premier league with the highlight being scoring against Liverpool at Anfield a goal that went on to win goal of the season for 2021/2022 with his team.

Shortly afterwards Mwepu announced that he had been forced to stop playing football following the discovery of a hereditary heart condition.

He was only 24 years old when he retired.
