Mundubile and  Makebi Zulu summoned by police for questioning

The Zambia Police Service has summoned Tonse Pamodzi Alliance Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and Mr. Makebi Zulu for questioning in connection with various crimes to which they have been linked.

In a statement issued by Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba, the Police said the Service in collaboration with other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) has been carrying out investigations for the past few years relating to serious national security threats

“The Police has invited Mr Brian Mundubile and Mr. Makebi Zulu for questioning in connection with various crimes to which they have been linked. To that end, an official call-out has since been served on their Advocates and we do hope that they will avail themselves on the specified date,” the statement reads.

According to the IG, part of the interview will seek to establish the link and connection between Mr. Mundubile and Mr. Zulu, and “various alarming activities that have been going on in the country, which have the potential to threaten or undermine national security, some of which have been conducted on premises owned, managed or linked to Mr. Mundubile or Mr. Zulu.”

The statement further indicates that the Police, in collaboration with other LEAs, is aware of the location of the duo, who have sought refuge under International Law with a known International Organisation.

Government has since communicated with the said Organisation and given assurances that the suspects are entitled to due process and their fundamental human rights.

Mr. Musamba said the Police is likely to invite other members of the public who may have information of high value to the on-going investigations, and urged the public to cooperate when lawfully summoned.

He warned that any person of interest who fails to avail themselves, or responds with threats or violence against law enforcement officers, will face applicable laws and proportionate measures.

The IG also said Police are actively investigating crimes of terrorism and terrorist financing. He cautioned the public against harbouring or assisting persons of interest, stating that such persons will be treated as accessories after the fact and face criminal sanctions.

“In a similar vein, any person or organisation involved in the financing of activities of persons of interest and their collaborators will be deemed as accessories, and therefore, subject to criminal sanctions,” he said.

Mr. Musamba urged citizens to remain law-abiding and maintain peace for the good of the Republic of Zambia.
