MICROLINK BUYS ROBOT TO HELP RESCUE TRAPPED MINERS IN FLOODED MINE
Management at Macrolink Mine has disclosed that a South African company Hill International has been engaged to provide a robot that will be used to search and possibly retrieve the seven trapped miners.
MACRO Link Mine Mining Manager JOSEPH Manyepa said the recent initiative of engaging divers from the Zambia army special forces has proven challenging as the divers would only dive up to 100 meters deep.
Updating the media on the progress made regarding the quest to retrieve the seven trapped miners Mr. MANYEPA explained that procurement processes for the robot have been made but authorities in South Africa are delaying in clearing it for transportation to Zambia.
Mr. MANYEPA has since appealed to the Zambian government through the administration of the Copperbelt to intervene.
And Mines Safety Department Acting Senior Inspector of Machinery LUMBA KAPOTWE said the initiative of diving has been challenging hence the proposed initiative of using a robot.
Copperbelt Minister ELISHA MATAMBO has assured the MACRO Link Mine management and the technical team that the government will support any deal that will lead to the speedy recovery of the trapped miners.
He also assured management that he would engage the minister of mines and that of foreign affairs to engage the South African government to facilitate the quick clearance and transportation of the robot.
