MEALIE MEAL SHORTAGE MEANT TO CAUSE UPROAR AGAINST GOV’T – SIMFUKWE
By Michael Nyumbu
Political Activist Henry Simfukwe is of the view that mealie meal shortages being experienced on the Copperbelt Province are as a result of a well-crafted scheme created to cause outrage against the government.
He believes that the move is meant to make residents of the Copperbelt lose faith in government, so that opposition political parties can gain popularity.
Simfukwe says the negative publicity the mealie meal shortage has raised should be an eye opener that the country needs to invest in agricultural production to improve food security.
He also says maize production should be scaled up in order for millers to have enough stock to help them produce enough mealie meal for the country.
Meanwhile, Southern Province Socialist Party Chairperson Kelvin Chakwata says it is unfortunate to see the current prices mealie meal is fetching on market.
He calls on government to consider engaging miller to see how they can regulate and reduce the prices of mealie meal for the sake of the consumer.
