MAZABUKA RECORDS 200 GBV CASES IN 2023 FIRST QUARTER

OVER 200 cases of Gender Based Violence – GBV have been recorded in the first quarter of 2023 in Mazabuka District.

According to statistics recorded at Mazabuka GBV One Stop Centre, 65 teenage pregnancies were recorded between the 1st of January and 31st of march 2023.

One Stop Centre Coordinator, Victoria Mubita says 85 cases of physical assault and 13 cases of sexual assaults were recorded.

This came to light during a stakeholder’s meeting on GBV held at Royal Laricio lodge in Mazabuka, Friday afternoon.

Speaking at the same function, Mazabuka District Health Director, Dr. Phallon Mwaba called for concerted effort towards fighting GBV.

Mwaba added that among other rampant cases are intimate partner assault and penetrative sexual assaults.
