LEADERSHIP SHOULDN’T  BE BOUGHT – Socialist Party Condemns Alleged Bribery Ahead of August Polls.

The Socialist Party has alleged that properly nominated Members of Parliament are being offered K350,000 by members of the ruling party to withdraw from the upcoming elections.

Speaking during an interview held on Yours FM in Mufulira, Socialist Party Presidential Campaign Manager Bob Robert Sichinga expressed displeasure over the alleged practice.

“In case they raise the matter in court we have evidence, so they better not try and do that,” Mr. Sichinga warned.

Also speaking was aspiring Member of Parliament for Mufulira Central, Reagan Kachinga who testified to having been approached.

“As a politician you need to be principled. The ruling party wants to go unopposed, and they even went as far as paying members of parliament to vote for Bill 7. Is that democracy?” Mr. Kachinga asked.

Socialist Party President Dr. Fred M’membe also weighed in, questioning the state of Zambia’s democracy.

“We never bought Zambia, so why should leadership be bought? It’s ruining the country and the democracy,” Dr. M’membe said.

The allegations come as the Socialist Party continues to campaign on issues of governance, the high cost of living, and youth unemployment.
