President Hakainde Hichilema has issued a stern warning to anyone planning to disrupt the electoral process, saying lawlessness and violence will not be tolerated on voting day.
The President says his administration is aware of alleged plans by some opposition elements to cause disturbances at polling stations, warning that anyone who attempts to interfere with the voting process will face the full force of the law.
President Hichilema has called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to respect the electoral process and ensure that voting takes place peacefully.
He says political differences should never be used as a justification for violence or the disruption of polling stations.
The Head of State has made it clear that security authorities will not allow individuals to break the law or intimidate voters during the elections.
“I hear the opposition want to disturb polling stations. I’m saying to them, no violence. Nobody will be allowed to break the law,” President Hichilema said.
He has urged citizens to exercise their democratic rights peacefully and allow the electoral process to take its course without intimidation, violence or disruption.
