South Africa’s Johann Rupert has seen his net worth surge to a record 378 BILLION RAND. That puts him just 1.9 billion rand away from the 380 billion rand mark.
Rupert suffered a temporary setback earlier in 2026, briefly losing his spot as Africa’s second-richest person to Nigerian billionaire Abdulsamad Rabiu. But he has now fought back and regained his position after a strong financial rebound.
What is driving the jump ?
Richemont’s market value has risen sharply and is now nearing 2.34 TRILLION RAND. The luxury goods giant is benefiting from strong demand in both the Americas and China.
But Rupert is not stopping at watches and jewellery.
He has expanded his business interests by taking control of a major property development and acquiring a significant healthcare network in South Africa amidst the country’s ongoing national health system reforms.
One question remains: Can he be the first African to hit 400 billion rand ?
