JERE ANNOUNCES BID FOR LUSAKA CENTRAL SEAT, BACKS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA
LUSAKA – Prominent lawyer Dickson Jere has announced that he will contest the Lusaka Central parliamentary seat in this year’s general elections, following extensive consultations and careful consideration of national and constituency matters.
Mr. Jere said he had received calls from various stakeholders encouraging him to stand as Member of Parliament and had since engaged widely with family, friends, clergy, students, youths, women and senior citizens before reaching his decision.
He added that he had also reviewed the delimitation report issued by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as part of his assessment.
He stated that his decision to contest the Lusaka Central Constituency seat was influenced by his deep-rooted presence in the area, noting that the majority of his life is centred there.
Mr. Jere explained that he lives, works, worships and conducts most of his daily activities within the constituency, adding that most of his assets are also located there.
The lawyer said he intends to be a consistently present representative, stressing that he does not wish to be an absentee Member of Parliament but one who remains actively engaged with the people of Lusaka Central.
On national matters, Mr. Jere reiterated his view that Zambia requires political stability and economic transformation.
He expressed support for President Hakainde Hichilema, stating that the Head of State deserves another term in office.
He said he believes President Hichilema is currently the best option to lead the country.
Mr. Jere further disclosed that he will seek adoption under the United Party for National Development (UPND) and will participate in the party’s internal selection process ahead of the elections.
He confirmed that he had officially launched his parliamentary bid.
