JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES TO HOLD DISTRICT CONVENTION VIRTUALLY TO PAVE WAY FOR UPND CAMPAIGN LAUNCH

The Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold the final day of their District Convention virtually on Sunday to allow the UPND Alliance to officially launch its 2026 General Election campaign at Heroes Stadium.
Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe says the decision followed consultations between government and the church after a scheduling clash was identified.
He has thanked the church leadership for its understanding and willingness to accommodate the political event, adding that government will extend concession days to the church in appreciation for the inconvenience caused.
Mr. Chileshe explained that the initial plan was for the political rally to be held outside the stadium while the church convention continued inside.
However, authorities concluded that the proximity of the two events would result in noise and other disruptions that could affect both gatherings.
Following discussions with the church’s leadership, it was agreed that the convention would proceed virtually on Sunday, allowing the campaign launch to take place without interference.
Meanwhile, preparations for the UPND campaign launch have advanced with the Ministry expressing confidence that Heroes Stadium is ready to host the event.
Mr. Chileshe said all logistical arrangements have been put in place, and government is looking forward to a successful and peaceful campaign launch as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the August 13 General Election.
