It was okay to have Yo Maps do the songs, but getting him on the campaign trail was a bad idea.
WHY?
Yo Maps has proved to be a very popular artist nationwide especially amongst the GenZs. He will pull a huge crowd. More huge than anyone can pull.
BUT WHY DO I SAY IT WAS A BAD IDEA? AREN’T CROWDS IMPORTANT FOR CAMPAIGNS?
Yes! Crowds are important but the reason they have gathered is twice as important. If the crowd came for the music concert, they will close ears when speeches begin. This happens even at crusades where they put too many popular artists. The moment the music stops, people start leaving. It is not rocket science.
The campaign team is failing the President. There is too much focus on irrelevant things. THE MESSAGE is important at this stage. There is need to maximize the opportunity to deliver an impactful, focused and future-oriented MESSAGE to the electorates in just a few sentences.
TELL THEM WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR. NOT WHAT THEY ALREADY KNOW.
People know the experience they had with PF. Each person has their own story and a good percentage of eligible voters are first time voters who were probably in secondary school by the time PF was removed. ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT THOSE? I noticed that 80% of THE MESSAGE is about PF. Why not make it about today’s problems and solutions being provided already? This is important because an average voter thinks today’s problems are created by UPND. They don’t know those technical jargons. Speak to their problems TODAY, not their 2021 problems.
THE MESSAGE must be clear and straight to the point.
As Yo Maps gathers the crowd, ensure you deliver the message in 5-10 minutes max and bring him back on stage to complete the message on your behalf before he sings. They will listen to him even if he talks for 20mins.
BUT if you’re just using him for music, I am sorry. The impact is equal to nothing.
