IT WAS A ROUTINE MEETING, SAYS PARLIAMENT CHIEF WHIP

Parliament Chief Whip STAFFORD MULUSA says the meeting that UPND Members of Parliament had with President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is a routine one that MPs always have to discuss developments in their constituencies.

Mr. MULUSA explained that this is contrary to insinuations by the PF that the meeting was about removing the immunity of former President EDGAR LUNGU.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. MULUSA has also dismissed assertions that the meeting with the President was about changing the 50 plus one clause in the  constitution.

Mr. MULUSA said when the Government embarks on Constitution reforms, it will engage the people of Zambia.

And UPND Secretary General BATUKE IMENDA has refuted reports on social media suggesting that President HICHILEMA held a caucus meeting with party MPs on constitutional amendments.

Mr. IMENDA says whilst there was a meeting at State House, at no point was there a discussion concerning immunity of former President EDGAR LUNGU, or indeed that of MPs who have been convicted by the courts.

He says it is tradition for the President and the Vice-President who is also Leader of government business in parliament and the top party leadership to have meetings with all Members of Parliament of the party whenever parliament resumes sitting or goes on
recess.

Mr. IMENDA has clarified that the constitutional issues or challenges that were read by Kabwe Central Member of Parliament CHRIZOSTER PHIRI on behalf of all the members of Parliament were among others, on the delimitation of the constituencies.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News today by Mr. IMENDA .
