…Saviour Chishimba fires back at critics labeling him a ‘job seeker’

POLITICIAN Saviour Chishimba, a prominent leader within the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance, has fiercely hit back at critics mocking him as a mere ‘job seeker,’ declaring that true public service is a calling that does not require an official Government appointment.
In a strongly-worded statement released on his official Facebook platform, the vocal politician condemned the culture of reducing political alignment to a scramble for personal benefit, stating that there was a deep-seated mindset issue among his detractors.
Mr Chishimba’s remarks were a direct response to taunts from political opponents and commentators who have tracked his changing political slogans over the years—ranging from “ukuya kwena aleya” and “muleya set” to “mushanina bwali” a term often used to describe political opportunists who dance for food.
Critics have recently weaponided these phrases to imply he was stranded without a formal Government job despite being part of the alliance.
“From ‘ukuya kwena aleya’, ‘muleya set’ and ‘mushanina bwali’ to ‘job seeker’. There is certainly something wrong with the mindset behind these empty utterances,” Mr Chishimba stated.
Invoking his religious beliefs, Mr Chishimba pushed back against the negativity, drawing on Jewish traditions of resilience and joy.
“I am a happy Jew. Judaism commands us to live in b’simcha (with joy) in all circumstances,” he declared.
“I shall therefore not surrender my happiness merely because some people have decided that every act of public service must be reduced to the pursuit of self-service,” he wrote
Addressing the perception that politicians were only relevant when given ministerial or parastatal jobs, Mr Chishimba clarified that his current role within the alliance carried immense national weight.
He highlighted his seat on the UPND Alliance Council of Presidents, an influential body chaired directly by Republican President Hakainde Hichilema.
“Sitting on the UPND Alliance Council of Presidents, whose meetings are chaired by the Republican President, is already an important form of national service,” Mr Chishimba argued.
“Public service does not begin with appointment to an office, nor is a title the only measure of political relevance,” he said
Mr Chishimba framed his political alignment not as a quest for personal enrichment, but as a duty to consolidate the developmental gains Zambia had achieved over the last five years.
Citing the biblical figure King David, who asked, “Is there not a cause?”, Mr Chishimba outlined what he believed was the pressing mission for the nation.
