President Hakainde Hichilema has named Garry Nkombo, Elijah Muchima, Newton Samakayi and Elias Mubanga as
four former United Party for National Development (UPND) Members of Parliament who voted against Bill 7.
Speaking at Solwezi Airport, President Hichilema says the actions of the four had the potential to undermine some of the government’s major achievements, including free education and reforms aimed at enhancing women’s participation in governance.
The Head of State has further called for loyalty and unity among UPND Members of Parliament, particularly those from North-Western Province, stressing the need for party members to remain committed to the ruling party’s agenda.
The president is currently attending a church service at SDA Chawama and is later expected to meet and engage UPND party structures in the province.
However, Gary Nkombo, who appeared on Diamond Live earlier this week, said he voted in support of Bill 7 and that he was surprised with the manner he which he was treated by his own party.
