INCUMBENT President Hakainde Hichilema has established a formidable lead in the ongoing presidential election, securing 2,057,986 votes against his closest rival, Brian Mundubile, who stands at 1,190,920 votes.
With 161 out of 226 constituencies officially consolidated, President Hichilema commands 63.34 per cent of the tabulated valid votes.
This leaves him with a significant cushion of 867,066 votes over Mundubile, who retains a 36.66 per cent share of the two-candidate pool.
Only 65 constituencies remained to be cleared and to erase the current deficit, Mr Mundubile would need to win the remaining districts by an average margin of more than 13,339 votes per Constituency, assuming no other candidates split the tally.
This required a massive, unprecedented surge in voter turnout and overwhelming margins in the undeclared regions.
