DA federal chairperson Helen Zille has once again put the spotlight on service delivery problems in Johannesburg after visiting a township community where residents complained about damaged roads, blocked drains and construction rubble left behind after work was done.

During her visit, Zille walked through the area with local residents and DA activists, pointing to piles of debris and road damage that she said had been left unattended. She questioned why infrastructure projects appear to be incomplete and why communities are still dealing with blocked drainage systems and unsafe roads.

Residents told her that poor maintenance has created daily challenges for motorists and pedestrians, while concerns were also raised about the condition of local infrastructure and the speed at which repairs are carried out.

The visit comes as political parties intensify campaigning ahead of future elections, with service delivery, infrastructure maintenance and local government performance expected to be major issues for voters.

Supporters say leaders should visit communities directly to see conditions on the ground and hold officials accountable. Critics argue that all political parties should focus on practical solutions rather than using community frustrations for campaigning.
