GOVT PROGRESSES IN DRAFTING LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR VOLUNTARY ZNS TRAINING FOR SCHOOL LEAVERS

In a significant development, government has taken concrete steps in formulating the legal framework necessary to operationalize the voluntary Zambia National Service (ZNS) training program for school leavers. Defense Minister Ambrose Lufuma announced that modalities are already being put in place to ensure the successful implementation of the ZNS school leavers’ voluntary training initiative.

Speaking at the pass out parade of 1,471 Zambia National Service recruits at the ZNS Kabwe Training School, Minister Lufuma emphasized government’s commitment to promoting skills development within the military. He highlighted that the government will continue to implement programs aimed at equipping young individuals with valuable skills and knowledge.

During the ceremony, ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi urged the newly trained staff to be prepared to serve in all areas. He also disclosed that some personnel would be deployed to the borders of the country to tackle smuggling activities and safeguard national security.

Colonel Peter Mwelwa, the Commandant of ZNS Kabwe School of Training, revealed that the recruits have undergone intensive agricultural training to enhance their proficiency in this crucial aspect of the service’s role. This training equips them with necessary skills to contribute to the agricultural sector while serving the nation.

The implementation of the voluntary ZNS training program underscores the government’s commitment to empowering young school leavers and ensuring their productive engagement in national development. With the legal framework taking shape, Zambia is poised to witness a more skilled and robust military force, capable of addressing not only traditional security challenges but also contributing to various sectors for the nation’s progress.
