In an effort to address the dire consequences of the ongoing drought crisis, Central Province Permanent Secretary Dr Milner Mwanakampwe today presided over a stakeholder engagement meeting to inaugurate an emergency cash transfer plan. Dr Mwanakampwe’s address underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to tackling the crisis and rolling out various initiatives through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
The Permanent Secretary disclosed that a rapid assessment carried out by the Department of Social Welfare had identified 146,000 vulnerable households, from which 100,844 individuals were selected to receive emergency cash transfers owing to their heightened susceptibility. He stressed the significance of a multi-sectoral approach to ensure a positive impact on the lives of those affected.
Stakeholder engagement sessions have been initiated to both educate and streamline efforts for the efficient disbursement of the emergency cash transfer across all 11 districts. Dr Mwanakampwe emphasized the necessity of conscientiousness, compassion, and efficiency in meeting the needs of the affected population. Furthermore, he highlighted the government’s steadfast intention to alleviate the suffering of the people and urged all stakeholders to unite in meeting the expectations of those affected.
In closing, the Permanent Secretary reiterated the importance of collective effort and empathy in addressing the crisis, expressing hope that with everyone’s commitment, the expectations of the affected individuals would be met. Additionally, he concluded with a plea for divine guidance and assistance, emphasizing the shared sentiment that the people’s tears are indeed the tears of God.@M.G
