Government argues public Interest should prevail in Lungu burial case
Government lawyer told the South African Supreme court supreme court that the late former Zambian president Edgar Lungu belonged not only to his family but also to the nation, and that public interest should take precedence in decisions regarding his burial.
Presenting arguments before the court, Stoop said that Ubuntu, the African philosophy that emphasizes community and shared humanity, requires that the interests of the public override those of the family in the matter.
He argued that Lungu was a national figure whose legacy and status extend beyond his immediate relatives.
The submission was made during ongoing legal proceedings in South Africa concerning the burial of the former president, a case that has attracted significant public and political interest in Zambia and beyond.
