“GIVE US OUR TERMINAL BENEFITS CRIES OUT UNZA EMPLOYEES”

As if the loadshedding saga is not enough government has again been thrown with another demand from THREE (3) University of Zambia (UNZA) unions who have called on government to pay the employees their nine years terminal benefits.
Addressing the media today 10th of july during a protest, was a representative for the three unions, Dr. Andrew Phiri who noted that none of the workers will be available to work until government settles all the outstanding dues.
Dr. Phiri, wondered why money for by-elections is always available unlike for UNZA employees.
Dr.Andrew Phiri, who is University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers’ Union (UNZALARU) has stated that the terminal benefits that government is owing the employees an amount of K836 million kwacha.
He added that an amount of K617 million money that the members contributed towards an internal pension scheme was never remitted to the pensions manager.
The unions are however demanding for at least k250million to partially satisfy their demands to allow the government source for more funds
The three Unions are, the University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers’ Union (UNZALARU), the University of Zambia Professional Staff Union(UNZAPROSU) and the University of Zambia Allied Workers’ Union UNZAAWU).
